Bertie Gosling 1886 - 1960
Bertie was born March 5 1886 and baptised 25 March at St Mark’s Easton. George and Sarah were living in Prospect Place at the time. Bertie first became a circular sawyer like his Dad but on 28 February 1907 Bertie joined the Royal Navy. He is described as being 5 ft 10 ½ ins tall with brown eyes and a sallow complexion but his birth year of 1888 is an error.

During the First World War Bertie served on HMS Ocean. Two months after the outbreak of World War I she was dispatched to the East Indies for the protection of the Persian Gulf convoys. In early February 1915 she aided the defence of the Suez Canal against the Turks and then sailed to take part in naval operations in the Dardanelles Campaign. She became part of a squadron comprising HM Ships Albion, Irresistible, Majestic, Triumph, and Vengeance, described "http://www.bambooweb.com/articles/m/a/March_1.html"
