Another Irene Capel was born 25/11/1916 to Henry Capel, taxi cab driver, and Margaret Sophia Usher in Willesden, their last child. Sure this is NOT she . This person married Douglas Brinkley in 1946 - seebelow

1916/1917 A possibility maybe a Vera K Hunt Taunton Dec 1916 born to a mother Hunt, suggesting a single mother / No similar single mother births for an Irene X in Somerset

What we know about iur Irene V Capel :

she said she was brought up by her grandmother in Taunton(Mary Richards) - living with her in 1939 Register

She never talked of knowing her parents

She must have been in Taunton at primary school and passed for grammar school but couldn't afford to stay at school

She said she was at xchool with the ballet dancer,Michael Somes: he was born 28/9/1917 in South Horsley , Gloucestershire!

She worked at the Van-Heusen Factory in Taunton where she had a clerical role

At the factory she met the Lock family(witness at wedding) and they introduced her to Mevagissey

She visited after relationship breakup met my father and married

There was no talk of family other than Mrs Richards

1939 Register . . Irene V Capel , born 1/12/1916, was a dispatch clerk, shirt & collar, and AAP for factory ( Van Heusen) , living 86 South Street, Taunton with a Mary A Richards 84. mistranscription . She thought Mary A Richards was her grandmother - see what we know about her at bottom of page

Another Irene Capel, was living Willesden in the 1939 reg. She is the one Lynne's notes suggest could be her mother - but SHE IS NOT. This one has a birth registered Willesden Mar 1917 , with a mother Usher( Margaret Sophia) Willesden 1917 and marries Douglas Brinkley Willesden Mar 1946

Have found John, bricklayer, and Mary Ann in 1891C, 1901C & 1911C - a daughter Rose May Richards 19 in 1911C They had been married 26 years, 2 children , 1 dead She , Rose M, married Bertie H J Smith Taunton Mar 1916- so was married before your mother born . So, in a different way, still seems Mary Ann was not her grandmother.

A James Richards, 1852 had a daughter Susan Ana Richards: she married a Frederick G Capel in Llanelly 1915_ a daughter Edna L Capel Llanelly Mar 1917

Desperately need some other clue your mother might have given you. . Rack them brains please!!. Like any books with inscriptions. etc
