TRAMORE

Tramore is a maritime village in the parish of Drumcannon and in the barony of Middle third, which had grown into a popular resort only in the late eighteenth century when sea bathing began to be the vogue. H.D. Inglis in his Journey throughout Ireland mentions that in 1834 while Trarnore was merely a collection of indifferent houses, 'the sea-beach is remarkably fine; and no shopkeeper at Waterford is entitled to hold up his head, who does not spend a few weeks with his family at w ram ore'^'. In I861 the population of the town was 1,847 which had reduced by 1901 to 1,733. By 1886 the town had seven substantial hotels, three schools, four different denominational places of worship, traders and merchants of all types and a railway line to Waterford city. There were almshouses, a poor house and a dispensary all of which catered for the sick and the poor of the area.

Have searched through the Tramore baptism fiche 1806-1809.pages 21-40. and certainly no Martin . Interestingly a baptism of a Thos. to Gulsch Fitzgerald & Anast. Power 10/3/1809, page 40

A strong possibility that the John 1770s is the father of maternal Martin 1807
