Who gave her away given her father was dead?? Her father had no brothers, so I wondered if her mother, who died 1900, had a brother still living?? Cannot find a sensible death for Thomas W West, born 1867, during the years 1881-1969. In 1911 a Tom William West , b. Grimsby, 45, saw mill labourer, is living 138 Upper Burgess St Grimsby - surely the 1867 brother of Sarah Frances West .a good chance he was alive late 1914 and could have given his niece, Frances Mary Rice, away. He would have been 48. An alternative thought was that he was Charles Francis Crow, the bank manager who was coexecutor of her father's Will - he 42 in 1914. Certainly the man in the photo looks at least 50!!

But who were the witnesses Arthur Samuel Knox & A. Needham?. The former, Arthur Samuel Knox 1858-1933, a Master mariner, aged 43, wife Alice, in 1901C, Dock master in 1911C, wife Alice 3 years younger. They married in 1882, she being Alice West, the 1862 sister of Sarah Frances West, Frances' dead mother. Thus Arthur an uncle by marriage, aged 56 in 1914, and thus almost certainly the man in the photo above giving the bride away . He left £4038 - probate 1933

The following 8 children were born: Mary E Jun 1916, Thomas R Jun 1918, Rowland B Dec 1919-1945, Arthur V Sep 1921 , Frances L Mar 1926, John E Sep 1928-2015, Peter J Dec 1932 & Pauline V Sep 1937

1918. Thomas Rice Hill was born

1943.Frances Mary Hill, 51, wife of Rowland E Hill, was buried in Scartho Road Cemetery Grimsby -Lincolnshire Memorial Inscriptions, no date given, FMP. Died Louth Sep 1943

Her husband remarried - likely a year later . Thought young Pauline likely lived with sister Mary during this year - ask Pauline

1981. Rowland E Hill, 92, husband of Frances Mary Hill, was buried in Scartho Road Cemetery Grimsby - FMP

They are both buried in the grave of her grandparents and her father - photo on her husband's page . Surprisingly, her 2 sons who died 1933 & 1945 are, seemingly, not buried here
