1805. William Thompson was baptised to Philip Thompson & Rebecca Stubs in St Michaels Macclesfield on 21/4/1805 - FMP Parish Record Collection, no more details . Definitely our man, as he calls his 2nd daughter Rebecca, his first son Philip & another daughter Ann Stubbs .
1826. FMP - William Thompson, silk weaver, married Mary Wichley [ this confirmed by the 1840 baptism of son John Whychterley - name sufficiently similar!] in Prestbury on 6/3/1826, but Mary said to be of Macclesfield, & later on in the 1851C she is born Market Drayton, Buckinghamshire: does not rule her out as she could have just been living in Macclesfield for a while, having ventured north to work in the mills??. Witness was a Sarah Thompson and he had an elder sister Sarah . Prestbury is ~ 3 m. N of Macclesfield .
Children baptised in Macclesfield: Sarah Ann in 1827, Rebecca in 1828, Philip, Mary & William together in 1836, Samuel in 1838, John Whychterley in 1840, Hannah in 1843, father given as weaver, abode Macclesfield . Did not find a baptism for Ann Stubbs Thompson ~ 1844: suspected she and Hannah are the same person & indeed bmd registration gives Hannah Stubbs in 1843!.
Their first daughter was born in Market Drayton so Mary must have returned there to give birth, quite a common practice.
1841C. William Thompson, 35, silk weaver, is living Beach Lane, Prestbury, Macclesfield with wife Mary & 7 children. Mary not actually born Cheshire!

Could William Thompson have had a 2nd wife called Knight 1851-1856?? - unlikely!!& not found during my marriage marathon trawl!!- his d of b does not fit this theory anyway! Stepson maybe should read nephew or something else! and anyway no bmd registration for a James Knight 1846-8 in Macclesfield!
