An email receved 11-6-2019: I came across your genealogical history involving Elizabeth Jane Penrose and family in a roundabout way.
I was actually looking for information on a Farren le Breton who wrote a number of light novels in the 1910s and then in the 1930s. I became certain that the name was a pseudonym as there was no trace of it on Ancestry etc, but could not find any more information to identify the writer. Until I came across a letter in a 1918 bee-keeping magazine written by a Farren Le Breton of 36 Hautville, Guernsey – the address, I am sure you aware of, of Elizabeth Jane Penrose on the 1911 Channel Islands census.
But Elizabeth Jane Penrose died in 1928 which would say she did not write the 1930s novels. My thoughts then turned to the daughters who are listed at the same address on the census. I notice that you say they could not have been there as they were already married. But I must disagree with you. I believe the Evelyn Maud (not Maude) who married Alfred Slatter died in Liverpool in 1953, apparently born c1885 and is the Eveline Maud Penrose born Devon in 1886. He is Correct
I have been unable to find the marriage of Mabel Penrose to George Blake, but I do not think she is any of those 1900s marriages. Definitely not the 1902 marriage to John Williams as that Mabel was born c1876 according to the marriage registration. Nor a death, but possibly she died in Greece?
I believe that Farren Le Breton is one of the Penrose family, the most likely candidate being Evelyn, who died in Australia in 1962, who does have two books published under her own name – “Dowsing” (1932) and “Adventure Unlimited: a diviner travels the world” (1958) though would she have written the earlier light fiction?
I would appreciate your comments on this, especially if you have any more information on Elizabeth and her daughters.

John Herrington
