Mary Elizabeth Harrison ~1866 -~1919

1866. Mary Elizabeth Harrison was supposedly born Preston to a Thomas Harrison, stone mason: he given on her 1892 m.c. - cannot distinguish her birth on Bmd There is one Mary E Harrison Preston Jun 1866 8e 492 and another Dec 1866 8e 502. Neither of these children appear on Ancestry baptisms!! 6/6/2015 have got, May 2015, the 1st cert- the wrong one!, father here of a Mary Ellen Harrison was Daniel Harrison: I then ordered the 2nd cert!- also not her, but have now lost it!!

July 2016. I now doubt she was born Preston. On his 1937 N Y prison record, her son, Robert H Stanley, 1903, states that his mother came from Ireland . Have had another census search with this in mind but still nothing . And nor Mary E Harrisons registered in Ireland 1866-1868, though there are plenty of plain Mary Harrisons. Dead end

Thomas Harrison could be buried, aged just 26, in August 1867 in Lancaster.

1871C. Preston . Thomas Harrison 40, shawl maker Jemima 39, Mary E 7 & & siblings 2-14? are living Kent Street, Preston . This would NOT seem to be her family - a shawl maker would hardly become a stonemason!

1881C. And same family- Thomas a shuttle maker- in the 1881C with Mary E 17 cotton weaver & Jemima & Thomas still alive in 1891C, wood shuttle maker . . So, unless 'stone mason' was a pure invention, NOT this family! Another Mary E Harrison 16 with Joseph & Eliz as parents in this C. Will order one of the above 2 b.c.s- a 50% chance of a Thomas father!!

Have looked at hundreds of census entries, but cannot identify one for Thomas stonemason with her - not helped by the fact that she could be entered as Mary E, Mary, Mary Elizabeth or Elizabeth!!

also interesting:   Not our family - last birth 1860, in 1851, 61, & 71 Cs in Lancaster
Marriage: 22 Sep 1870 St Mary, Lancaster, Lancashire, England . Lancaster 22 m from Preston
James Stalker - 27 Stonemason Bachelor of Penny Street
Alice Harrison - 25 Spinster of Church Street - she born Lancaster in 1851C, as are her siblings 0-9
Groom's Father: Robert Stalker, Stone Mason
Bride's Father: Thomas Harrison, Stone Mason
Witness: H. S. Harrison; Mary Ann Harrison
Married by Banns by: Maurice H. Marsden, Curate

Also , on Genes Reunited Chat :

My forebear William Harrison (weaver) was born in Atherton Lancashire in 1803. He married Agnes (born 1800 Kendal Westmorland). Their sons Thomas (1824?) and Anthony (1831) were born in Kendal Westmorland. Anthony was a cabinet maker. In 1853 he married Sarah Ann Ashes in Manchester Lancashire. Sarah Ann was born 1837, the daughter of Richard Ashes, harrier and Elizabeth Anderson. In 1841 the Ashes family lived in Pendleton, Lancashire. Anthony and Sarah Ann's first child Alfred (1855) was born in Pendleton, Lancashire followed by second child Sarah Ellen (1856). Their third child Joseph (1860) was born in Oldham Lancashire, followed by fourth child Alice (1864). In 1861 Anthony and Sarah Ann were still living in Oldham, and had a boarder Thomas Harrison (stone mason) aged 36? years, married, born in Kendal Westmorland. This may have been Anthony's brother Thomas. We think that Anthony's daughter Sarah Ellen may have died in 1866 (aged about 10). In 1871 Anthony was again living with his parents William and Agnes in Kendal, together with son Joseph and daugher Alice. Anthony's wife Sarah Ann and daughter Sarah Ellen are not mentioned. We dont have any further information about them. By 1881 Anthony (widower) had entered Kendal workhouse. In the same census a widowed Thomas Harrison (stone mason) born about 1824 in Kendal, Westmorland was living in Bolton, Lancashire. This may have been Anthony's brother Thomas. In 1882-3 Anthony's son Joseph Harrison (carpenter) emigrated to Australia on the ship 'Pericles'. Joseph was my great-grandfather. In 1891 Joseph's' father Anthony remained an inmate of Kendal workhouse. A Thomas Harrison was also there, aged about 65- and he died 1892 Kendal, aged 66 . He may have been Joseph's uncle Thomas. In 1900 Joseph's' brother Alfred (cotton machinery fitter) was living in Oldham when Alfred's wife Jane died (aged 47) at 20 Lowerhouse Street Oldham. She was buried at Chadderton Cemetery. Alfred's son H? Harrison of 14 Granite? Street is mentioned on the death certificate. In 1902 Joseph's father Anthony died in Kendal workhouse. In 1905 Joseph's' brother Alfred died in Crompton, Lancaster. Alfred's daughter S Butterworth of 7 Mortar? Street is mentioned on the death certificate. We would love to find decendants of Joseph's uncle Thomas, or Joseph's brother Alfred, his sister Sarah Ellen (if she survived childhood) or sister Alice. regards Diane

1919. When does Mary Elizabeth Stanley die? I cannot find a remarriage for her 1916-1931, nor does she seem to go out to Ontario by 1920. No death on Bmd 1916-1960 . . A plain Mary Stanley b.1865 dies West Derby Dec 1919- this would tie up with her son, Robert H Stanley, stating that he was 16 when his mother died on his 1937 N Y Sing Sing Prison Record . But ordered it , but this certificate is for a death of a Mary Stanley, 54, on 3/12/1919 at 12 Sandseer Road , Everton, the wife of Thomas William Stanley, barman.

So, when & where did Mary Elizabeth Stanley die??
