We regret to record the death, on Saturday last, of Mr.
W. HANSFORD
, one of our oldest
tradesmen. For an octogenarian Mr. HANSFORD was remarkably energetic up to the last, and the
illness which terminated fatally must have bee
n a short one, for he has been out quite recently. At
one time Mr. HANSFORD took a considerable interest in town affairs, and for some years was a
member of the Ryde Town Council.

THE DEATH OF MR.W. HANSFORD
.....a very old tradesman of the town, took place at his residence, Temple House, George
–
street, on Saturday, at the age o
f 82. Deceased, who was a native of West Milton, Dorsetshire,
began business in the Channel Islands in 1828, but subsequently started up the furniture and
upholstery business in Cross
-
street, Ryde, from which he retired in the Jubilee year. He had held the
office of overseer for the undivided parish of Newchurch and was for some time a member of the
Corporation. The funeral took place at the Cemetery on Wednesday.
